Finding Rivers

Remember that movie Finding Forrester? Here's the trailer:

What writer would you want to discover lurking next door? Would you let that author mark your work with a red pen? What do you think that writer could teach you?

I have no clue why the video is taking up half my page! lol

One of my favorite movies ever. Julia Cameron. Art, practice, consistency, craft. Paulo Coelho. Substance, meaning, depth. Thomas Merton. Spirituality.
Reading me with red pen in hand - frightening.
I absolutely LOVE this movie! Seriously! It is fabulous!!!!

I think I would like Jodi Picoult to take my work and red pen it all over the place. Imagine what I would learn!

DEFINITELY Francine Rivers. And I would try to find a plot about HER life!!!

GREAT thought.

Been missing you at my place!!

Julie, thanks for stopping by! I haven't read those authors, though I think I've heard of them. Amazing how you can pick out their strengths like that.

Sherrinda, it really is! I saw it before I wrote and I liked it, but now it's taken on greater depth for me.

Terri, LOL, why am I not surprised by your pick? :-)

Patti, Hahaaa, hence my title. I'd want Rivers too. I've missed blogging but should be making it over to your place in a little bit. Hope things are going well for you!

That's a good question! Off the top of my head, maybe Liz Curtis Higgs (although she does live nor too far from me already) or James Scott Bell. L.M. Montgomery or Harper Lee might also be interesting.
Happy Wednesday,
Karen :)
Wow, tough one. I'll go with Elizabeth Berg and Wally Lamb smashed into one.

It's possible, right? :D

Wendy, of course! Smashing is always a good idea. lol

Karen, I bet Liz would be fun to work with! Her contemporaries are hilarious.

Robin Jones Gunn, definitely! She's the reason I started reading Christian fiction, and if she's as fun as her books, I think I'd get more than my daily dose of laughter.

This is on my "to see" list. I just haven't gotten to it yet. After that clip, I think I'm going to move it up in line. Heh.

Charlotte Bronte. And I'd let her mark ALL OVER my work with anything. Heck, she could use a stick of lipstick if she wanted.

She was a master at first person POV and characterization, not to mention beautiful imagery and prose.

Cool post, Jessie!

This is so hard to narrow down! I'm curious what Audrey Niffenegger would say!
Jessica Nelson said…
Tamika, that'd be cool. I haven't read her books but have heard great things!

Anita, Ha! I didn't even think of her. She'd be great because as far as I know there were no "rules" then, just great stories.

Sarah, I've read her before and if she's who i'm thinking of, I liked her books a lot!

JK ROWLING! She could teach me how to worldbuild better and how to fully infuse the fantastical in my work!
Hi Jess -

I'm not a big movie fan, but I did see this one. Loved it!

Hmm, I wouldn't mind living next to Francine Rivers or Jane Kirkpatrick. Do I have to stop at two? LOL! How about a whole neighborhood of writing greats?

Blessings,
Susan :)

Jane Austen if she were alive.

But Liz Curtis Higgs since she is one of the best Christian historical fiction authors today.

Philip Lee Williams who I greatly admire. I loved his novels The Authentic History of Jenny Dorset and A Distant Flame.
Wow!!! That movie looks awesome!!! I want to see it. As for who I would want to red pen my work . . . um, Donita K. Paul, Jerry B. Jenkins, Orson Scott Card, Davis Bunn, and Janette Oke, Max Lucado, Dandi Daley Mackall, and if I could have any writer from any time . . . C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkein too.
What a great question!!!

Max Lucado, Eugenina Price--you're too young to know who she is--and Tosca Lee.

I love this movie. One thing I remember is when he said just write anything to start and then it will get better. It always does.
Yes, I would let any famous author read my work. Why not? I wonder what Sharon Creech would think.

I too loved this movie. I think I would like anyone whose opinion I respected.

I had forgotten about this movie. Oh how I loved it!

I think I would love to find Liz Curtis Higgs lurking next door - cuz I bet she would be a fantastic neighbor! *grin*

Loved that movie!!! I want J.K. Rowling to be my next door neighbor so she can become my mentor :)

Brilliant movie and awesome question. I think I would like that person to be Anne Lamott. Or Stephen King. No wait, Anna Quindlen. Better yet, David Sedaris. It's too hard to choose. Maybe I'll just take Sean and call it good. :-)
Watching the trailer makes me want to see that movie again. I've forgotten so much about it.

Definitely inspiring for me to keep writing!

I would want my favorite author next door, except she would move because I'd bring cookies over every day and stare at her like a doofus.

I would love to find Janet Evanovich living next door. I could learn so much in character development from her. Her characters are so funny and well-developed. And, yes she could red pen my work...or if it would be easier she could red paint my work, LOL.
Hmmmmm - well, we write in different genres, but I'd be curious as to what Stephen King would say about my work ....

I'd love to discover Heather Graham (the author) living next door. I met her in NO and thought she was fantastic.

Oooh, love reading all the authors you'd want nearby! It's so exciting to even imagine. LOL
Catherine Cookson, purely to pick her brains about the Victorian era. :)

Enid Blyton to show me how to build exciting adventurous moments for children.

With the youtube size issue go to your post html and find width and height on the embed code. I change to 350-400. If you look closely you will see the figures need changing x 2 within the code. At the beginning and end. If you only change the beginning one, the end overides it, you have to do both.
Hope that makes sense ☺

Stephen King! I think we'd have a blast. :) And I'd love his input on anything I pen. ;)

Reading down everyone's comments, I marveled on how everyone has chosen a different author. I was thinking Stephen King, and then, read the few other's that picked him as well! I'd also like Margaret Atwood. I've always wondered if her hair is as crazy in real life as in most of her pictures! And her red marks I'd easily welcome.

I've never seen that movie. I'd honestly love to meet Stephen King. I know he's probably over it already but I grew up reading him and feel like he's been such an inspiration to me.

Oh, there are so many! I guess that means I need to live in a neighborhood of writers. :)
