Winner of A Hope Undaunted, and other Books I've been Reading

Image
And the winner is... Molly!! Congrats! Shoot me an e-mail with your mailing info and we'll get your copy out to you. :-) I've read a few books lately that I've loved. A lady from work lent this book to me and I really enjoyed it. The genre and voice was a little different from my normal reads but guess what? The girl still gets the guy. :-) You'll have to read to find out which guy she gets! Besides the wonderful hero and romantic love of the story, there are some other great nuggets of wisdom in this read. I'd definitely recommend it. I flew through this book. I felt like I had to know what happened next. I think what made this story so powerful was the characterization. From the first page you know you're dealing with a heroine who is both ruthless and incredibly loyal. These qualities really made the story compelling. That and the high level of personal stakes involved for the heroine. I've been disappointed with most of Dekker's latest offerings b...

A Winner! and I'm Out and About

First, Congrats to Lisa Jordan ! My two year old drew your name so e-mail me with your address and I'll get Tailor-Made Bride out to you. :-) I'm running around this week doing all sorts of things so I'm taking a week off of blogging. I hope wonderful things happen for all you this week and I'll see you next Monday!

It's On: A Competition

Image
As of January 1, 2010, I haven't accomplished much in the way of writing goals. Furthermore, I've been writing my work in progress for almost a year. That has to stop. Therefore, I'm proposing a little competition to get myself in gear. If I don't finish my WIP by February 28th, 2010, I'm buying one lucky commenter some Godiva. If I do finish, then I'm buying myself some. Comment if you want to be entered and let me know if you want to race to the finish line. I have around 25k to go. How's your writing going? Have your resolutions been manageable? Or did they already fall by the wayside

Where I'm At

First, I hope all of you have a wonderful, relaxing Labor Day! For this post, I just thought I'd share a run-down of where I'm at in my writing. I have a proposal for an older manuscript with an agent, but she's had it a long time so I'm not sure if the interest is there. Hoping though, and still very excited that it's under consideration. :-) I'm almost done editing this WIP and then I'm going to give it to a few people to read over. This is also the WIP I'm planning to pitch at the conference in two weeks. Not only that, but I just got some contest results back on this WIP. *cringe* I'm smarting still, but mostly at my own stupidity. I forgot to change my synopsis to reflect the changes in my WIP. Therefore, my motivations didn't line up and both the judges caught discrepancies between what the plot was supposed to be and what the chapters were showing. There were also some other excellent suggestions, but overall my scores were low so that was...

Thank You and A Book

I just want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to pop over and read my interview. Wow. I am both honored and humbled by the kind comments you gave. You guys are awesome and I hope I can make you feel as special as you all made me feel. :-) Recently I won a book from the Seekers called 100 Words Every Writer Should Know. It's pretty cool. Here's a word for you: Obluquy. Any guesses as to the meaning? (No looking it up; think Balderdash!) Person closest to the truth wins a toddler-(lightly)marked-with-pen-on-the-cover-but-still-in-good-condition Diamond Duo , Marcia Gruver's debut historical.

Sorry Y'all

After battling a cold and five little boys (lol) I'm tuckered out. So the next "real" post will be Tuesday. In the meantime, I have so many books that I want to do another book giveaway, but this time it's going to be a contest of sorts. I have a fun idea... And can't wait to see what you think. More on that later. At the risk of sounding corny, Happy Sunday everyone!

Contest Alert

Rachelle 's having a contest which involves a ten-page critique for the winner!!!! BTW, I'm almost done with my book.

Want some feedback on your writing?

There's a crapometer blog that you can send a few pages to. Elektra publishes it and lets people comment on it. Book End LLC is holding a contest for the first 100 words of your manuscript. Pix'n Pens is holding a historical short story contest. Good luck!

Contests

So after reading several authors' websites I discovered ACFW and RWA. I joined. And then I discovered writing contests and critique partners. Then guess what I did? That's right. I entered some writing contests. Romance Writers of America have hundreds of different chapters and each chapter usually holds some kind of contest. The first one I entered was ten dollars and called for the first three pages of my manuscript. I bombed it. Okay, maybe I didn't do horrible, but I didn't do great. There were three judges who critiqued my stuff and overall, I got some really good advice. So while I my writer's ego deflated for awhile, it is now recovered. Plus, I vented to my critique partners (CPs). A little complaining always helps. Then, the other night I got a long distance phone call. Turns out that the same manuscript placed third in a different contest. That contest called for the first fifteen pages. Woohoo! You can't imagine my screaming. Because even though third...
