Conversations With an Eight Year Old

We were driving in the car the other day and my oldest turns to me and says, "Mom, do you think there's a portal for Heaven and a portal for hell?"

I was taken aback but definitely amused. I smiled and said, "Sure, why not?"

From there conversation turned to wormholes, portals, time travel and all other cool stuff. Basically along the lines of quantum physics. My son is not an all A student but he is a curious and bright little boy (seriously, I'm not at all biased *wink*). I can't wait to see what kind of job he decides to have as an adult and where his imagination takes him.

Do you think about portals? What kind of cool and surprising things have you heard kids say?

Portals? If you mean an entry point, sure. For people, the portal to either heaven or hell is death. I could go on, but this is a comment not a theology class. :)

The cutest lately was while playing "kitchen" with my under-two granddaughter. She gave me a plate and fork, which I pretended to eat with raving over the delicious food. Delighted she brought me a little red "bowl" which I traded her for the plate and started to "clean off" with yums. Well...she got a really disturbed look, took back the "bowl" which apparently was a "pot" spooned the "food" out of the pot onto my plate where everyone knows you're supposed to eat from! :)

I like Susan's comment, too! What a creative mind. It is AMAZING how much we can learn from kids. Maybe Mommy's next romance can involve wormholes and portals :)

I love it when kids think beyond the norm and ask questions. You've either got a journalist or fiction writer on your hands there. :) Maybe both.

Awwww. Maybe he'll write fantasy one day. He's definitely got the imagination, and the writer's gene. :) And yes ... I think about portals A LOT. Hehehe. *wink*

I don't think of portals much at all, but I can see how a child would, especially if their literature was heavy with them.

I think it is amazing what questions children ask. I'm sure your son's lively imagination will take him far.

You just never know what kids will bring up, do you? :) Glad he has a good imagination. He's probably creative too, just like his mom. :)

My son has a wild and strong imagination...I don't know if he gets it from me or not but I do love it. :-) I probably won't be able to get him to sit down and write a book though. He'd rather run through yard lost in his world. lol

We All Got to Learn to Do It Sometime

*grossness alert* We all have to learn to deal with doo-doo eventually. Consider me a newbie mom, but it never occurred to me that my son should be wiping himself until about a month before kindergarten. And then the flashbulb went on and I scrambled to teach him. Work First, Play Later

I'm back! I had a wonderful time with my family. Thank you all for asking. :-) In 2009 my schedule evolved into a blog first/write later kind of thing. It happened that way because my husband began using the computer in the afternoons and evenings for his project, but now that I have a router, my schedule's changing. It's time to work first, play later. That means I do my chores/errands in the morning, write at naptime, and visit your wonderful blogs in the afternoons and evenings. So if I don't show up in the morning, don't be alarmed (if you even notice, lol). I'm just changing things up. I'm too exhausted in the evening to write, that's why. Melodramatic Mother

Mom, this one's for you. *wink* The other day we were on the phone and my mom was describing some of her ailments to me. She's normally a healthy person, but she does suffer from allergies and sinus issues. She's also a vivid person and this comes across in her language. In this case, she told me her pain was skewering up through her nose. Skewering. She never finished the description because I laughed. What a perfect word! Strong, to the point, I had an exact (if somewhat gross) image of what was happening. Do you have a vivid person in your life? Someone who thinks in ways you forget to? And in your WIP, are you using the strongest verb possible to convey EXACTLY what you mean?
